I attended a wake and a funeral service of one of our grandmothers in the Lord, it was a glorious session.

During the service, I didn’t know when I shed tears, sweet tears because here was a sweet memory of someone who died in the Lord in a ripe old age.

Oh my God, come and hear sweet testimonies about this mama, she evangelised till she gave up the ghost. Despite being asthmatic, mama never stopped proclaiming the good news of Christ.

There was a woman who testified that mama led her Christ, what a glorious testimony.
Most of their testimonies were on how she continually preached the gospel. She was an ardent preacher.

Many of them said though she was a trader; she hawked shoes, mama would place her goods on her head, hold tracts with one hand, and hold a megaphone with the other hand, shouting and preaching to all that could hear that “Jesus Christ is the Only Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father except through Him”; Hallelujah!

Mama wasn’t fearful to approach anyone, although she was almost illiterate.

The other aspect of the service that brought tears to my eyes was when they sang those glorious hymns.

Below are some of the chorus.

Chorus 1:
“Only remembered, only remembered, by what we have done,
This would we pass from Earth and its toiling Only remembered, by what we have done.”

What would I be remembered for, what would you be remembered for? When you cross over to the great beyond, would you only be remembered as a prostitute, smoker, sugar daddy, drunkard, liar, backslider, and so many ungodly acts? Ask yourself.

Chorus 2:
“When I’ve gone the last mile of the way,
I will rest at the close of the day,
For I know there are joys that await me,
When I’ve gone the last mile of the way.”

Like seriously?

How am I sure that I will rest in His bosom and not in hell? What did I do here on earth that warrant joys to be awaiting at my home return? Are you also checking yourself? No one knows when s/he would breathe the last breath, mama died in her sleep.

Chorus 3:
“How beautiful heaven must be.
Sweet home of the happy and free;
Fair heaven of rest for the weary,
How beautiful heaven must be.”

Are you not longing to see how beautiful heaven must be? If the White House could be that beautiful, if you could appreciate those beautiful mansions here on earth, then how beautiful heaven must be? Where will I be if I should miss my home in heaven, besides, do I even have a mansion up there? Take time to reflect on these.

Chorus 4:
“When we all get to heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory.”

Really? Are you sure you are going there? Are you really longing to see Jesus? Then we must mend our ways if truly we want to see the Master. I can’t wait to see His glorious face and have Him smile at me, and say “welcome my daughter!”

For want of space, let me quickly chip in one of my most loved songs.

Chorus 5
“‘Hold the fort, for I am coming”
Jesus signals still;
Wave the answer back to heaven
“By the grace, we will.'”

This requires deeper reflection, He says in His words that we should keep standing, and continue in steadfastness. By the time He returns and appears in the sky, will you and I be ready to go with Him?

Funeral services are moments for sober reflections, not only for whining and dining.

Now reflect soberly on these:
📌 What would be said about you you when you are finally gone? “He stood for Christ or that useless fellow has finally gone”?

📌 Like He said, “I’ve gone to prepare a place for you, that where I am, ye may be also.” Are you part of those He spoke about? Does your work here on earth qualify you for a mansion above?

📌 What if you die in your sleep, where would you be? Yes, I know that it is our prayer to die at a very ripe old age, just like the Lord promised, but what if…? Where will we be?

Note: Being a candidate of heaven isn’t about being the pastor’s son or daughter, neither is about being a deacon in the church, far from it, it begins with you surrendering your life to Him; Jesus. You don’t have to drag the ownership of your life with Him, He knows how to take care of you. Confess your sins to Him and ask Him to have mercy on you and forgive you.

I love you and I wish you heaven at last. I don’t want to be a conductor that calls passengers to the vehicle and ends up not going with the vehicle, I want to make heaven at last.
