Whose Child Are You
Written by: Crownofglory Patience Edet
I went to bed in a black mood after I saw gory pictures, and videos of what started as a peaceful demonstration of solidarity, which eventually turned out to be a Black Tuesday for the youths, the deceased families, and the nation at large.
At the wee hour of the day, a call from my younger brother frightened me, he told me that one of his children who were under the weather was behaving oddly.
Cold chills ran down my spine, I took my scarf and placed it on my head as I handed the phone to my mum. I started pleading the Blood of Jesus, while my mum gave him some instructions on what to do for the child.
About two hours later, my phone’s ringing tone sent me away from my resting place to my feet. My phone was a distance away from me; it was plugged into the power socket.
My heart started drumming. On getting there, I saw that it wasn’t my brother’s number. Then I picked the call, the time was around past two (02:00 A.M).
The caller introduced himself as a “Bishop”, apologized for calling me at such an odd hour of the night, he explained that he got my phone number from a praying group on WhatsApp, then, he asked if I would join the prayer that was scheduled for four (04:00 A.M), I said “no’.
Then, he went further to tell me that he would send the prayer points to me. That was fine by me, hence, I told him to send it. He asked if he could call me back, I replied in the negative. The next thing he said was that I should minimize my phone, and resend whatever code that he would send to me.
Like seriously? Some good youths were out there fighting for the betterment of Nigerians, and you are here performing rubbish.
When he uttered that rubbish, I slammed the phone on him, I wish I could slap him for wasting my time, and almost giving me a shock.
He called back, I rejected the call, then he called again, I answered his call and gave him a brain. I told him that I can’t believe that some good youths were out there fighting for our joint course, and you are here looking for who to dupe. He was mute. I wish I could give him a brain-resetting-slap.
I slammed the call on him again, and that ended it.
Can you imagine this awful thing?
We were still weeping over great heroes and heroines who lost their lives just last night, you neglected that and was busy searching for who to scam. God will reward you in your coin.
Dear Reader, “Be sober, vigilant, and watchful for the devil (scammer) is like a roaring lion seeking whom to devour (scam)”.
My points of reflection are:
The devil is never tired of luring you away from God, he doesn’t give up. No matter what you are going through or what is happening around you, all he is out to get is YOU. Will you allow him to get you? No? Then, please be watchful, and prayerful.
Rest on Him, because Jesus is with us to save us from his tricks. What is the meaning of Emmanuel? (Let me see your answer in the comment section).
The second point of reflection is that you’ve got to be careful about what you do on and with your phone. Not all that glitters is gold, don’t be deceived, there are no freebies anywhere except when the Lord leads you. When His leading comes, He will open your eyes on how to go about it.
Don’t be scammed by either the Devil or his children, and you should know that a child of God and God can not deceive you.
As a Christian, be a good representative of Christ, stay away from whatever will connect you to the devil.
Remember, by their fruits, we shall know them. Christians are not scammers, only the children of the devil are. I know that you’re a child of God, so behave like one.
May God rest the souls of the departed heroes and heroines, and may He grant their families, the good youths of Nigeria the fortitude to bear such irreparable loss in Jesus’ name…Amen.
I love you.
