I’m thinking, why was Samuel connected to two people who were fired but left in the office? That’s a question I have no answer to at the moment though.
Samuel’s sons were not like him (1 Samuel 8: 3-5) so, Israelites asked for a King and God led Samuel to ordain Saul as king (1 Samuel 10: 1).

After Saul assumed office, the Israelites were meant to go to war with Philistines and expected Samuel to make sacrifice before they leave, Samuel said he would come in seven days’ time but he did not come early that seventh day.

Maybe ’twas a case of expecting someone in the morning and the person
showed up in the evening or night. 1 Samuel 13: 8 (GNT) He waited seven days for Samuel, as Samuel had instructed him to do, but Samuel still had not come to Gilgal. The people began to desert Saul.

As much as we always want things to happen fast, it is important to be patient because without perseverance we will miss some goodies in God. God’s timing is not the same as ours. Life is contrary to the popular “think it and make it” message.

Saul waited, 7days isn’t a joke when you have something urgent and important to do, the challenge however was, Saul’s patience was incomplete. Just imagine installing an app and your data finished or battery went flat when it was 95% complete.

Maybe if Saul had waited one more hour or so, Samuel would have come because 1 Samuel 13: 10 (NLT) says Just as Saul was finishing with the burnt offering, Samuel arrived.

Waiting period is never a walk in the Park, yet we will all go through it. What we do while we wait determines our result, you may be in a stage right now when God seems silent, please don’t seek alternatives. In the latter part of 1 Samuel 13: 8, the people began to leave Saul, which was why he resolved to make the sacrifice in 1 Samuel 13: 9.

He must have thought, “after all I prophesied the other day (1 Samuel 10: 10), I am also a prophet”. Maybe some people came to remind him how the prophecy he gave the other day manifested. Anyone that wants to leave your life because you are waiting on God is free to take a walk, watch them exit without feeling bad.

“What will they say” “What will they do” “What if” “Won’t it seem like” has made many miss their divine moment. The question is, how far are you willing to ‘drag your ego down’ to please God? When you have the money to do something and God says do not do it, will you obey? When you obey, will you obey till your obedience is complete?

As soon as Samuel knew what Saul did, he said 1 Samuel 13: 13 “Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the Lord thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the Lord have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.”

You know what that means? All the accolades given to David would have been given to Saul. Blind Bartimaeus would have cried “Jesus thou son of Saul”. Saul lost it because of incomplete patience. Saul lost it because he was scared of people leaving him.

Let’s imagine it in this manner, Saul was running Instagram live and because what people were expecting didn’t happen, they were leaving the live video and unfollowing him. Hence he decided to manage the situation by offering the sacrifice.

Just like the story of Eli, vacuums are not entertained. 1 Samuel 13: 14 “But now thy kingdom shall not continue (Saul’s dismal letter): the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to be captain over his people (appointment letter for the next person), because thou hast not kept that which the Lord commanded thee (reason for dismal letter).

King Saul remained in office for several years, in fact he remained in office till he died, despite that David his successor was anointed while he was still alive. God is the only one that sacks you and leave you in the office.

Are you tempted to ‘help God’ fulfil His promise in your life? God promised you promotion and you have not seen it but your gay boss said you should just allow him and it will be all yours?

You have waited endlessly for a child and you just got an offer to buy a child stolen from a new mum in the hospital or baby factory or get babies through fetish means?

You are trusting God for a Godly spouse and since s(he) isn’t forth coming, you want to succumb to pressure and marry just anyone? Will you say you don’t know that though that person attends Church, s(he) isn’t a God lover?

You have what it takes to execute that contract but you have to bribe them or falsify figures and you’re giving it a thought saying ‘Heaven helps those who help themselves’ (hope you know it’s not in the bible)?

Poverty has eaten deep into your life and you are contemplating doing that ungodly work or selling your body? You were told to construct a house and you are managing the cement to maximize profit, when you know that building may collapse later?

You just got a job in a tobacco company with fat salary and you are about to take it?

You know what? There will always be a choice to fulfil God’s promise through an ungodly means but the repercussion is never sweet, because it sometimes cost you your eternity.
