3. BRANCH (STEM): are meant to be part of a system and as long as they’re
there, they flourish.
A branch can grow so big that it seems sufficient, the branch may assume
that it can stand alone. Forgetting that every branch that is cut from the
tree will wither with time (not immediately).
a.) Joseph: For instance, Joseph is the grandson of Abraham and the
most prosperous among the twelve sons of Abraham yet, he was an
employee. The bible had no record of Joseph starting any business.
i). Potiphar’s Overseer: when he was sold to Egypt, he became a
worker in Potiphar’s empire. See what was said about Joseph.
The Lord was with Joseph, and he (even though a slave)
became a successful and prosperous man; and he was in the
house of his master, the Egyptian. – Genesis 39: 2 (AMP)
Now his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the
Lord caused all that he did to prosper (succeed) in his hand.
– Genesis 39: 2 (AMP). Joseph was a successful employee and if you want us to put it in bible term, he was a successful slave.
ii). Inmate manager: from Potiphar’s house, Joseph landed in
prison and because he carried Abrahamic blessings he became
a team lead, yes he succeeded in prison.
The warden had no more worries, because Joseph took care
of everything. The Lord was with him and caused everything
he did to succeed. – Genesis 39: 2 (NLT)
iii). Prime Minister: this was Joseph’s third role. The average
millennial (born 1981 to 1996) would assume that he should
‘have his own’ now, as compensation for all he has been through
but God’s ways are not our ways. Joseph’s breakthrough
entailed answering to his boss, Pharaoh an unbeliever.
Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall
all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater
than you. – Genesis 41: 40 (KJV)
Joseph had great dreams from childhood and maintained a
Godly life, yet the manifestation of the dream did not involve
starting his own.
b). Daniel (and the three Hebrew boys): also had unbelievers as their
boss. Daniel, the man that loved books was an official in Babylonian
kingdom for 65years. One of the things that make people dread
being a staff is retirement, but not everyone is idle after retirement
while some never retire. The most important thing is to stay
relevant, when you are relevant and position yourself, you will be sort
Daniel was found to be ten times better than his colleagues (Daniel
1: 20) and he did not make this a one off achievement else he would
not have been worthy of recommendation.
But when the queen mother heard what was happening, she hurried
to the banquet hall. She said to Belshazzar, “Long live the king!
Don’t be so pale and frightened. There is a man in your kingdom who
has within him the spirit of the holy gods.
During Nebuchadnezzar’s reign, this man was found to have insight, understanding, and wisdom like that of the gods. Your predecessor, the king Nebuchadnezzar made him chief over all the magicians, enchanters,
astrologers, and fortune-tellers of Babylon.
This man Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar, has exceptional ability and is filled with divine knowledge and understanding. He can interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve difficult problems. Call for Daniel, and he
will tell you what the writing means. So Daniel was brought before
the king. Daniel 5: 10 – 13a (NLT).
Just see the marketing Queen Mother did for Daniel.
I have an issue with Christians whose Christianity does not exemplify
them at work. If the only time they know you are a Christian is when
you pray or take permissions for Church service, you are not doing
our Master proud.
Your Christianity should show in problem solving, in decision making
not only in opening and closing prayer. It should show in the excellent
way you do your work; until your Christianity reflects in other things,
some unbelievers will never come to God.
Preaching is great and yes it converts, but there are people that would be converted only by lifestyle. There are backsliders who will only be restored by the lifestyle of Christians.
Nebuchadnezzar said everyone should worship the God of Shadrach,
Meshach and Abednego in Daniel 3: 28. I assume that the king must
have said to himself, maybe it’s their God that has helped them do
well at work. Mediocrity does not represent God!
There are people that need to be converted to God in that office,
maybe that is why God sent you there.
In our contemporary world, an example of branch in Christendom (Nigeria)
is Bishop David Abioye, the Vice President of Winners’ Chapel.
You must be asking yourself which category you belong to, unfortunately there is no general formula that help you detect which. You need to consult your manufacturer (God). Don’t be swayed by people’s words, if you are a branch or continuer prepare your mind to hear several people telling you to go start your own but, determine not to be distracted.
Some of the people that mocked Pastor Adeboye and Bishop David Abioye are envying them today.
Abrahamic blessing is not limited to those that start their own, if you start your
own without being led you are likely to meet a waterloo. Several employees
(Pastors inclusive) have gone to start their own because they commanded where they used to be, unknowing to them that they do not carry the beginner’s (root) anointing. Ask your manufacturer (God), if you have taken the wrong step already humble yourself and trace your steps back.
If you are meant to be a beginner, don’t ignore it because you are enjoying benefits where you are. If you are meant to be a continuer or branch, don’t leave to start your own, rather ask God for the right place to be planted in. There are rich employees and poor employees, there are rich business owners and poor business owners, everyone determines their class by their way of life.
